More About Automatic Mission Control Navigator

Improve your search of Mission Control with this Chrome Extension.

USAGE:

1. This extension will add a context menu item called 'Search in Mission Control'. This item will appear whenever you right click a link or highlighted text.

2. This extension will work if the link is an (i) internal managed link (has the cluster id in it), (ii) is a subdomain of dynatrace-managed.com or if it has the (iii) environment ID in the url. For everything else, all the text in the link or what you have highlighted will be used to execute a search in mission control. In some cases this can be useful, such as using the company name to execute a search.

3. Caching/Local storage: The extension maintains an object in local storage that maintains a key:value pair for each cluster. If a cluster is not found in storage, XHR to mission control is used to find the cluster id and then the mapping is pushed to storage. The next time you use the extension to find the same cluster, the extension will find the mapping in local storage and be able to open the cluster page instantly. In other words, over time the extension will be able to open a large number of cluster pages without ever making an XHR.

4. The background page can be accessed from the chrome://extensions page - check the logged messages in case something doesn't work as you expect.

5. Search Mode/Focus Mode:
When you start out, the extension is in the 'search mode'. Once you are on the internal managed link, you can click the extension icon to switch to 'focus mode'. This will save the node-id so that you can go back, and use the 'search in mission control' option on links that the customer posts to instantly replace the domain part of it with the internal equivalent. The rest of the URL will be appended to the internal link, thus saving you the trouble of having to copy + paste half of each piece. Simply click the extension icon again to discard the saved url and switch back to regular mode. The extension uses a green icon for search mode and a red icon for focus mode.
