Sonic the Hedgehog is a platform video game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. The game stars the character Sonic the Hedgehog in his quest to defeat the antagonist, an evil scientist named Dr. Robotnik who has imprisoned animals in robots and stolen the magical Chaos Emeralds. The gameplay involves collecting rings as a form of health and a simple control scheme in which jumping and attacking are controlled by one button.
