About Spiderman:
Spiderman, is certainly one of the most popular and successful superheroes of Marvel. In a world where teenagers can only be sidekicks, Spiderman stands out.
Spiderman was created by Stan Lee (writer) and Steve Ditko (artist). At the time of his creation, superheroes were all adults; and teenagers were only sidekicks like Robin and Bucky. Thus, his creators wanted to make a superhero that teens can relate to. This made Spiderman a hit to teenagers and young adults which fueled his success. However, during those times, he was called "Spider-Man". A hyphen was included in his name to avoid confusion with Superman of DC Comics. He was also called "Spidey", "Web-Head", "Wall-Crawler", and "Web-Slinger".
On August 1962, Spiderman made his first appearance in the comics Amazing Fantasy #15. Spiderman- whose real identity is Peter Parker- was a high school student when the story began. And since his first appearance had been successful and profitable, Marvel gave him his own series entitled The Amazing Spider-Man which became their best selling series. Due to the popularity of Spiderman the story went on and he graduated from high school, went to college, graduated from college, became a married high school teacher, and was portrayed to be a single freelance photographer in the past decade.
Peter Parker was raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May since his parents died when he was young. When he was in high school, he went to a science exhibit where he was bitten by a radioactive spider. He then underwent changes in his body. He acquired superhuman strength, speed, and agility. He became able to climb on most surfaces and shoot web from his wrists. He also acquired the "spider sense" which lets him sense danger when it's near.
Unlike many superheroes, Spiderman has a really colorful love story. In high school, he had his first crush who is Liz Allan. He had his first date with colleague Betty Brant who is the secretary of J. Jonah Jameson, the publisher of Daily Bugle who has a lot against Spiderman. When he broke up with Betty, he fell in love with his college classmate Gwen Stacy who became his girlfriend. Unfortunately, Gwen was killed during Spiderman's fight against the Green Goblin. Eventually, Mary Jane Watson became Parker's confidant, best friend, and wife.
Other supporting characters include Eugene "Flash" Thompson, the high school bully that tormented Peter while Harry Osborn is his best friend who is also his rival at times.
Spiderman has many enemies, some of which are Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Venom, Sandman, Kingpin, Vulture, and Chameleon. Most of these villains had scientific accidents just like Peter while some of them use technology to wage war with Spiderman and bring chaos to the world.
Spiderman's popularity did not stay in the books and films. His popularity made its way to Spiderman games.
