I write a lot of story notes in Google Keep on my phone, which uses straight quotes. But I'm a typographer, and so I care about correct punctuation. Straight quotes are generic, while smart quotes are forward and back facing, depending on whether it's an opening or closing quotation mark.

This simple script will run through your Google Doc and replace all straight quotes with the correct smart quotes. It will also replace a double hyphen with an em dash.
