Toolbar Colors and Labels for Gmail is a free Productivity Extension for Chrome. You could download the latest version crx file and install it.
More About Toolbar Colors and Labels for Gmail
Adds two features to the Gmail toolbar.
1) Icons with color (new version).
2) Text labels back in alongside the Gmail icons.
There is currently no way to disable one or both features. It will be added in the next versions. This extension is only available in English for the moment (more translations coming).
Based on two user styles by stevesigma and crdunst with additional fixes and updates:
