More About Flickr Fixr

A multi-feature extension to fix some annoyances, make Flickr more "explorative" and bring back some lost features...

The major features:

1) Always show photos in big size.

If this feature is enabled, Flickr Fixr will try to upscale photos when current display-versions are too small to fit the available space in your browser window. Also when the original uploaded version of a photo is available (Should always be available when surfing your own photos), Flickr Fixr will use that for best possible quality.

2) Album-teaser column on photostreams.

In one of the big Flickr-updates some years ago, the column to feature a photographer’s albums or collections disappeared and made Flickr less Gallery-like and less inviting for exploration in peoples “backlog”. Yes, there’s a link to albums in top-menu, but I don’t think any casual visitor ever sees or open it. The flexibility in album organization is Flickr's strongest asset in my opinion, and it's tragic that Flickr has decided to hide the albums from casual visitors. But Flickr Fixr puts back a column featuring albums on every photographer's frontpage (photostream). The 10 first albums as sorted in Flickr Organizer are shown in this column.

3) Direct tag-links to same photographer's photos.

When hovering the mouse over a photo-tag, Flick Fixr adds an extra link in tags, pointing to the same photographer's similar tagged photos.

4) Links to album-map and album-comments.

Adds two extra links in "album headers". One link pointing to a map with current album's photos, and another link pointing to the old hidden/forgotten page with album comments, which also is a great page for reading long album descriptions.

5) Extra and improved map links on photos.

When a photo is geotagged on Flickr you can follow a link to a map showing the area where the photo was shot. However this map does normally only show the latest or most "interesting" photos in the area. Usually the photo you were looking at is not included on the map or in the image-ribbon at the bottom of the map. But with Flickr Fixr, when opening Flickr Map for a photo, the photo is added to the image-ribbon and it's geo-location is marked on the map.
Bonus: Also adds a link on photopage to show geoposition on Google Maps.

6) Top-pagination for fast an easy navigation.

Are you annoyed by having to scroll to the bottom of photostreams for pagination? Flickr Fixr adds a pagination-bar above the streams for fast and easy navigation. But because the pager-bar sometimes gets pretty wide and might overlap other icons or dropdowns also placed right above the photostream, the top-pager is hidden until you hover your mouse over the center-area right above the photostream. The top-pager is available on photostreams, albumpages, favorite collections, ("beta experience") group pools and on the Explore page.

7) Explore Calendar and Recent Uploads.

On the Explore page, Flickr Fixr adds a link to the hidden/forgotten Explore Calendar and to a page showing some of the latest uploads to Flickr. A little warning regarding the latest uploads though; Even though Safe Search is activated on that page, you risk seeing stuff you might have preferred not to see.

8) Extra top menu items.

Adds Tags, Collections and Map items to both the user ("You" dropdown) and the photographer menus (menu bar).

9) Extended date & time info on photopages.

Via mouseover, show both Taken and Upload dates in detail when available. Taken date will also work as a link to more photos from the same photographer.

10) Show available newsfeeds.

When a newsfeed is detected on a page, an orange feed-icon is added as link to this. The feed-icons are added in upper right corner of pages. Works both on pages on the main flickr.com site and on the blogs on blog.flickr.net and code.flickr.net.

The browser extension is based on (and share code-base with) my userscript, Stig's Flickr Fixr, which debuted back in 2015. Features of userscript and browser extensions are similar, but only browser extensions have an Options page allowing you to toggle support for each feature independently.

Have an awesome time on Flickr :-)
